Cristiano Ronaldo has once again let Manchester United fans dream, by hinting that he would be welcome to a return to his former club, according to Sky Sports.
Ronaldo, 29, has said that he is happy at Real Madrid, but also stated that his future plans may involve of a move back to Manchester.
The current Ballon d'Or holder is still contracted to Madrid for the long term, and has stated he is extremely happy at the Spanish club.
The Ex-United star enjoyed an incredible spell at United under Sir Alex Ferguson, where he saw himself rise from a talented youngster to the best player in the world.
Ronaldo at United
United fans enjoyed six years with Ronaldo where they won numerous trophies, including the Premier League three times, and a Champions League trophy that saw the Portuguese star score in the final.
Ronaldo has constantly been open with regards to his affections for United, and he spoke recently with the Daily Mail regarding the rumours.
“I love Manchester; everyone knows that – I have said it many times. Manchester is in my heart. I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day," he said.
“I am happy here in Real Madrid and have four more years, but in the future you never know because they treated me unbelievably there.
“I really did love being at Manchester United.
“Believe me, they will be a good team again. I’m sure of it. It is a great club.”
The news of a possible return will put a smile on the faces of many United fans, a smile that may not have been there since Sir Alex Ferguson departed.
United went through a torrid patch under previous manager David Moyes, and Van Gaal has also made a shaky start in his attempt to steady what could well be a sinking ship.
Ronaldo on United's fortunes
The Madrid star went on to speak about United's current phase, and his view on the signings made.
“This can happen. Bad moments and good moments,” said Ronaldo.
“Manchester is passing through a bad moment. Last year it was a horrible season and this year they haven’t started well either.
“But I do think they did well to buy (Angel) Di Maria and (Radamel) Falcao. I think the team will be much better. I want to see them better because it is such a fantastic club and they deserve to be better.
“Falcao is a very good signing. He is a very good player.”
