Newport County youngster Regan Poole is having a trial at Premier League giants Manchester United.
This has been reported by BBC Sport, who have suggested that the 16-year-old centre-back trained at Carrington on Thursday with the club's reserve team.
And, with Poole training at United, Newport's youth development coach Mike Flynn has revealed that the Old Trafford outfit have been impressed with the youngster during the trial period.
Speaking to reporters, Flynn said: "Manchester United have been very impressed with him and decided to make the first move.
"I spoke with Regan earlier and he's absolutely buzzing. He's gone up there and done well.
"He's very good on the ball," said Flynn, "he's got a great spring on him, he's fit, he's strong.
Flynn has gone on to suggest that the youngster can be a 'top' player, but must keep working hard in order to enjoy a great career.
"He's literally got most of the attributes that I think he can go on and become a top player.
"As long as he keeps working hard and improving and always wanting to learn, he's definitely going to have a great career.
"If the move comes off is down to the club and Manchester United, but I hope it comes off for him because I really think he can go on and make a great career."
It remains to be seen as to whether United chiefs will offer the highly rated defender a deal with the club, but he will be dreaming of emulating the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Co. at the Theatre of Dreams.
There's no doubt that Poole could be one for the future, but Manchester United's current defence is certainly in need of improvement. The Red Devils have struggled defensively this term after the likes of Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra departed the club at the end of last season.
With the 3-5-2 formation implemented at Old Trafford, first team stars such as Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans will all be hoping to improve as they learn the new system. Youngster Tyler Blackett has surprisingly been a key member of Van Gaal's first team set-up, whilst Red Devils fans will be hoping to see Argentine Marcos Rojo make his debut for the club after the international break.
Manchester United will be hoping to find some form after a poor start to the season. Van Gaal is still waiting for his first competitive victory as manager of the club after failing to beat the likes of Swansea City, Sunderland and Burnley so far.
The Red Devils play host to QPR on September 14 and securing the three points will be the expectation at Old Trafford.
