Golfing World News - September 5

Hi I’m Mick LeMare and this is GW News from Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in the Swiss Alps. The beautiful surroundings this week play host to the European masters for the fiftieth time. It’s a little misty here today after day one saw low scores in lovely conditions and Eduardo Molinari and Richie Ramsey led the way overnight with a pair eight under pars, sixty twos.

Ryder Cup qualifier Jamie Donaldson was an early leader finishing tied second with a sixty four and we chatted to the Welshman after this round about what it’s like to build up to a Ryder Cup.

JAMIE DONALDSON: The Ryder Cup’s obviously one of the biggest ones. It’s a huge experience and honour to play in that team. It will be awesome from Gleneagles. But there are other things that I need to keep focussing on for that to happen so I’m glad that it has and here we are waiting to play.

Over to the FedEx Cup playoffs now where play was suspended due to bad weather. But not before Rory McIlroy could card a three under par round to join Gary Woodland and Jordan Spieth at the top of the leaderboard at the BMW Championship.

RORY McILROY: You know its playing a bit like a US Open, I wouldn’t say it’s as difficult as that but it’s thick rough especially around the greens and firm greens. You know that’s the only recipe you sort of need to keep the scoring the way it is.

That’s all for today, don’t forget to join us on Monday where we’ll round up all of the action from here in Switzerland and over in Colorado. In the meantime you visit our website and we’re on Facebook, twitter and Instagram.
