Radamel Falcao has admitted he had doubts about his Old Trafford transfer and that Manchester United required an extension from the Premier League to ensure his season-long loan deal went through.

The London Metro carries quotes from the Colombian striker who was speaking after last night's international friendly with Brazil, where he explained that his faith in God got the deal over the line, allowing for his successful switch to England.

Radamel Falcao quotes:

"No one has the idea of the stress I experienced at the time," he said. "The transfer almost wasn’t achieved but thank God we had an additional hour and then it occurred."

The deadline day acquisition of Falcao wrapped up a successful summer transfer window for the Red Devils, with Louis van Gaal also adding Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Angel di Maria to his ranks at Old Trafford.

Expensive summer

Di Maria was arguably the biggest transfer coup after joining from Real Madrid in a British transfer record £59.7 million deal, but Falcao's arrival from AS Monaco should also not be underestimated.

He initially joins on a 12 month deal, with Manchester United paying £6 million for the player's services, but have the option of making his transfer permanent depending how he performs in 2014/15.

Premier League debut

Much will be expected of the South American marksman as Van Gaal looks to improve the club's fortunes after a disappointing seventh place finish in the Premier League last season.

Falcao is in line to make his Manchester United debut next weekend when the Red Devils welcome newly promoted Queens Park Rangers to Old Trafford. It will represent the perfect opportunity for Van Gaal's men to record their first win of the season.
