Louis van Gaal may have spent around £150 million on acquisitions for his Manchester United squad this summer, but it would appear that he still remains hot on the heels of former Red Devil Paul Pogba.
The £60 million-rated France international has been followed closely by Chelsea for the past few months, and has been linked with a switch to one of the Premier League’s biggest teams since last summer. His form for Juventus has caught the attention of a host of mega-rich suitors, with his club having to fend off approaches as they look to keep hold of their most prized possession.
United's interest returns
And now, despite having dropped off the radar for a while, United’s interest in Pogba is back, with Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claiming that Juventus chiefs are bracing themselves for a large offer in the near future.
Van Gaal remains intent on ensuring that his squad is as potent as it can possibly be, with his appointment having preceded a number of purchases which have installed a ‘Galactico’ feel to the current United setup.
His rumoured pursuit of Pogba will allow the powers that be in Turin to rest easy regarding to future of Arturo Vidal, who United doggedly tried to sign before the transfer deadline, but they can hardly afford to rest on their laurels.
Potential move to England
The player in question has in the past declared that he still loves United, for whom he played in his formative years as a footballer, and a move back to England would allow him to tackle challenges that Serie A can’t offer in its current state.
Of course Jose Mourinho will always be lurking somewhere in the background, and a move to disrupt United’s ambitions from Stamford Bridge would hardly be a surprise. Yet with Pogba’s asking price so high it remains to be seen which club will put their financial clout where their mouths are.
