NFL Week 1 Pick'em - Broncos and 49ers to start well unlike Panthers

Published Add your comment

It's week one of the NFL. The Packers and the Seahawks already got the season started on Thursday night and now we can turn to Sunday's games. With this in mind lets take a look at some predictions for who is going to be celebrating after all is said and done.

Buffalo Bills @ Chicago Bears

Prediction : Bears win

Against poor teams Jay Cutler is very very good. The Bills are a poor team. Cutler is going to make use of his offensive weapons to dismantle a Bills defense that will badly miss linebacker Kiko Alonso.

Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Prediction : Steelers win

The Browns defense looks like it is going to be good this season. It will keep the Browns in the game but that Brian Hoyer led offense is not going to have enough about it to score many points. The Steelers to win by a touchdown.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Philadelphia Eagles

Prediction : Eagles win

Jacksonville are a team on the upswing. I've tipped them to challenge in the AFC South this season but they don't have enough about themselves to live with Chip Kelly's offense in week one. The Eagles will win and it will be by at least a couple of touchdowns.

New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins

Prediction : Patriots Win

Tom Brady and Gronkowski are both going to be fit and ready to go against the Dolphins. This will be enough to extend the Patriots run of opening wins to 11 straight. It's as simple as that.

New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons

Prediction : Saints Win

Look a the rosters of these two teams and it is clear that the Saints are the superior
outfit in almost every respect. Drew Brees is going to have a massive game and the Saints are going to win without too much trouble.

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Prediction : Buccaneers win

This game will be a close one. Both sides have very obvious weaknesses on the offensive line. Both sides also have good defensive pass rushers. Expect to see the Panthers front seven in the back field hurrying and hitting Josh McCown early and often.

Unfortunately, for Carolina though you can expect to see the Tampa defense led by tackle Gerald McCoy doing the same. Since Cam Newton is already nursing a rib injury this is worse for the Panthers than it is the Buccaneers.

Furthermore, the receiving options on the Buccaneers side are far superior than the
motley crew Cam is throwing to. Even if he is being hurried McCown won't have to be too accurate to find the the giant receiving options of Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson.

Tampa will have enough about them to win.

Cinncinati Bengals @ Baltimore Ravens

Prediction : Ravens win

Andy Dalton is not anything more than an average NFL quarterback but against teams in the Bengals division he is terrible. In games against division rivals Dalton has a completion percentage of 56.8% that is less than Brandon Weedon's.

There is no reason to think Dalton is going to buck this trend in week one of the 2014 season. The Ravens will win at home.

Washington @ Houston Texans

Prediction : Texans Win

It may only be pre-season but RGIII looked truly terrible. Combine Washington's struggles at quarterback with the Texans pass rush and the Texans should be able open up the season with a win at NRG Stadium.

Tennessee Titans @ Kansas City Chiefs

Prediction : Titans win

The Chiefs offensive line likely to be terrible this season. Three of last seasons starters are gone and Andy Reid has replaced them not with high draft picks or proven talent but with Jeffrey Linkenbach and two sixth-round picks.

The Titans have a great offensive line, a talented running game and a decent defense. They will have enough about them to squeeze out a narrow win.

Minnesota Vikings @ St Louis Rams

Prediction : Rams Win

The Vikings at the Rams is one of the toughest games to call this week. The Vikings offense under new offensive co-ordinator Norv Turner should be good this season.

Going to St Louis in week one playing against the Rams defensive front seven though is going to be too much too soon for the Vikings though. The Rams will win narrowly.

Oakland Raiders @ New York Jets

Prediction : Jets Win

After the Raiders front office finally took the blinkers off they realised early this week that Matt Schaub cannot possible start a game in the NFL and they gave the starting job to rookie David Carr.

That was the right move but it won't change the result of this game. The Jets will have just enough about them to start the season with a win. The Jets defensive front seven
is going to rip through the Raiders offensive line like it isn't there. I just hope David Carr doesn't get banged up to badly. He has a legitimate chance of being the Raiders franchise QB provided he doesn't start seeing ghosts in the pocket.

San Fransisco 49ers @ Dallas Cowboys

Prediction : 49ers win

Dallas' offense is one of the best in the league. With a fit Tony Romo at quarterback and weapons like Demarco Murray, Dez Bryant and Terrence Williams the Cowboys will
move the chains and will score lots of points.

Unfortunately, though the Dallas defense is the worst in the league on paper and it is likely to be the same on the gridiron. Against a strong 49ers team this will be their undoing. Kaepernick, Gore, Davis, Crabtree and Boldin are going to stomp all over them.

Denver Broncos @ Indianapolis Colts

Prediction : Broncos win

The Colts have Andrew Luck and not much else. Trent Richardson is not an NFL calibre running back and the Colts interior offensive line looks like a disaster waiting to get Andrew Luck injured.

The Broncos meanwhile have Peyton Manning leading their offense and have made big improvements on defense. This should be a comfortable win on the road for Denver.
