Manchester United will target the sale of high earning squad members like Ashley Young when the transfer window reopens in January.
That’s according to the Daily Telegraph, who report that Young could find himself in the firing line when Louis Van Gaal looks to trim his squad further in early 2015.
Man United transfer news
The England international is currently on £115,000-a-week at Manchester United, although van Gaal does not see him as part of his squad long-term.
Young has been forced to fill in at left-wing back early this season following injury to Luke Shaw but the former-Aston Villa star will find his place under threat in the coming weeks as players like Shaw return to first-team training.
United have promised van Gaal another big transfer kitty for the January transfer window, with all the talk out of Old Trafford suggesting United could bid for a ‘Luis Suarez’ type signing at the earliest opportunity. That is referring to the £75m Barcelona deal for Suarez, suggesting Manchester United could once again pay over £60m for another addition.
Adidas kit deal
Having brought in Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao in the summer, van Gaal has already spent the best part of £150m. But United’s £750m Adidas kit deal means that the club believes such signings are comfortably within their budget.
They may have to revisit that if they fail to qualify for the Champions League again, as Adidas have a clause that drops the value of the agreement if United are out of the competition in two consecutive seasons.
But with the kit deal and high earners like Young set to be shifted off the wage bill, United believe van Gaal has the ability to bid big again in January.
