Johnny Manziel effigy hung by Pittsburgh Steelers fans prior to Browns game

Published 1 Comments

Johnny Manziel many not even take to the field for the Cleveland Browns today as the 2014 NFL season gets underway.

Still in the limelight

Having lost out to Brian Hoyer in the battle for the starting quarterback role ahead of his rookie year Manziel may be consigned to the bench for the entirety of the Brown's season opener on the road to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But such is the hype and intrigue surrounding Johnny Football's entrance into the National Football League that Steelers fans felt it appropriate to give the former Texas A&M star his own special welcome.

As you can see in the picture above this came in the form of a fairly crass hanging effigy of a dummy in Browns jersey complete with Manziel's number two.

Hostile reception

Having played SEC football during his college days Johnny Manziel is no stranger to hostile road crowds but this may well be a first. Were not even sure Longhorns fans would have made such a crass move.

And we are pretty sure it must be a first in the NFL too, I mean there can't be many back-up QBs to have been 'honored' in such a way by opposition fans down the years.

It remains to be seen whether Manziel gets to have the last laugh in Pittsburgh but one thing is for sure, Johnny Manziel's rookie season in the NFL is certainly going to be one to keep an eye on.

Even if his time on the gridiron is limited the controversy surrounding him off it is unlikely to follow suit.
