Diego Costa injury is a dream for Munir El Haddadi

Diego Costa’s injury is a “dream” for Munir El Haddadi after the Barcelona starlet admitted he couldn’t believe he was called up to the Spain squad after the Chelsea star was ruled out through injury.

Spain play Macedonia on Monday evening in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier and while they will still be confident of a win in Valencia, the Stamford Bridge striker is first choice through the middle for Vicente del Bosque and he has few proven options in form to take over.

Chelsea fans will have been delighted with the start Costa has made to his Premier League career, which is why Munir did not think he had the slightest chance of getting a call from La Roja.

Ready to take the chance

Despite his shock and delight at getting his first senior call-up, the Camp Nou forward, who also qualifies to play for Morocco owing to his Moroccan parents, insisted he would do all he could to make the most of the Chelsea man’s misfortune and make himself a mainstay in the squad.

“When they told me my jaw fell open. It's a dream come true. I know I have to savour it, take advantage of this opportunity and give it my best shot,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Express.

Great early form

Costa has only made three appearances since his £32million move to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid this summer, but he already looks at home in Jose Mourinho’s side and has settled into the Premier League nicely, scoring four goals.

Performances have been so good that many fans of the west Londoners were worrying that the injury could derail their early season form, but the Brazil born striker’s international teammate and Manchester City playmaker, David Silva, revealed it was not too serious.
