Aston Villa star Fabian Delph is in line to make a shock start for England tonight, with The Daily Mail suggesting that the newly-capped midfielder is set to start in a 4-3-3 lineup against Switzerland.

Delph was given his first call-up to the squad for this international break and earned his maidenThree Lions cap after coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Norway on Wednesday.

Deputy

Jordan Henderson was injured in the final training session in preparation for the game as St Jakob's Park, and now it seems the Liverpool man's spot will be taken by Delph.

This honour rewards the former Leeds United midfielder's great 2013/14 season, during which he won Villa's Player of the Month award for the first three months of the season and even scored four goals following five years without a goal for the Midlands side.

Breakthrough

The box-to-box midfielder finally made his breakthrough at Villa in 2012/13 after injuries stopped the Bradford-born ace from making an impact in the first team at Villa Park.

Delph's impressive form meant he was a key cog in the Villa team and now he has his rise for his club by breaking into the national set-up in Roy Hodgson's new-look squad.

Delph is likely to face a familiar face tonight, as he is expected to line up against Villa's Swiss centre-back Phillipe Senderos.
