Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed the details of his conversation with Arsene Wenger after pictures emerged of him smoking on holiday in Las Vegas this summer. (The Telegraph)
The 22-year-old has been criticised in recent months for so far failing to fulfil his potential, and pundits hit out at the England international again when photos appeared proving that Wilshere has been unable to kick the habit.
However, the Gunners youngster said that a stern warning from Wenger has forced him to buck up his ideas this season, and was the motivation behind his early return to pre-season training to prove he is serious about improving.
"I spoke with the boss after the first time and he was accepting, saying: 'I'm French and I've been on a team bus with French players who are smoking,'" Wilshere explained.
"But the second time it was: 'Look, come on Jack. This is a big season for you.' I knew that already," he admitted.
