There looks to be no end to the whole WWE and CM Punk saga as it looks as if the company have responded a recent 22 page document by reducing the price of Punk’s merchandise by a considerable amount.
Last week it was revealed that CM Punk’s attorneys had sent the WWE a 22 page letter regarding royalties CM Punk feels the WWE owes him. Although the WWE haven’t directly responded to the letter, they seemed to have done so on wweshop.com and the Euroshop version as well.
At first it may seem like the discounted prices mean nothing, but if the WWE have to start paying CM Punk royalties once more, they will be paying him a lot less than they previously were as the prices have been heavily reduced even when compared to other current stars in the company such as Daniel Bryan and John Cena.
This response by the WWE has gotten many outlets to believe a lawsuit could be on the horizon as neither party will look to budge from this. It's still unclear as to whether Punk and Vince McMahon are on good terms and a sour relationship could make it even worse for the company and CM Punk.
The American version of the WWE shop – wweshop.com – only has five options of merchandise remaining for the fans that still might want to get their hands on them.
Massive price drops
Whilst the ‘CM Punk Series 40 Action Figure’ is still available for $10.99, a CM Punk reader book has been reduced from $4.99 to only $0.99, the $19.99 CM Punk ‘Best Since Day One’ baseball cap is now available for only $1.99. The CM Punk ‘Crimson X’ pendant which was selling for $11.99 is reduced to clear at $1.99 and the final item – CM Punk wrist sleeves – are down to $2.99 from $11.99.
The prices have also been reduced in the European version, although more items are still available to buy but t-shirts are now available from as little as £6.99 which were around £20.00 previously. Hoodies, pendants, wristbands and other accessories have all been discounted by more than half in some cases; so this could be seen as a response from the WWE to that 22 page letter sent by Punk’s attorneys.
Once CM Punk walked out of the WWE in January this year, the company were still paying him his royalty checks and reports suggest that these payments have stopped and it is the reason the attorneys sent the letter to the WWE; along with the fact that CM Punk believes the company ‘owes’ Punk for using his likeness in the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game.
Video game potentially delayed
As we know CM Punk will be playing a big role in the WWE 2K15 video game, his storyline with John Cena will be part of the showcase mode which the players will play through along with a Triple H and Shawn Michaels feud.
But it looks as if the game as a whole could be delayed.
Originally due for release in late October, there are concerns that they may have to hold off releasing the game until or if this situation will ever be resolved.
