Manchester United are set to renew their efforts to sign Arturo Vidal in the January transfer window after failing this summer, reports The Express.
The Chile international was linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer and it seems there will be no respite between now and January with reports already surfacing about a new bid.
Citing reports in Chile, The Express claims that Louis van Gaal will be ready to make a move for Vidal after being backed by vice chairman Ed Woodward to spend in January. Manchester United announced impressive financial figures, boasting a record turnover of £433 million.
Those figures still do not take into account the lucrative deals agreed with Chevrolet and Adidas meaning Manchester United's financial strength could grow further next year. Having already spent £150 million, Van Gaal still has funds to blow on new stars in the new year.
Vidal fitness concerns
As Manchester United fans will be tired of hearing, Van Gaal has already confirmed his admiration for Vidal. The Dutchman has dropped his name in press conferences more than once since taking charge at Old Trafford, throwing plenty of fuel on the fire–as if it needed more.
However, there seems to be grave concerns with regards to Vidal's fitness. The Chilean rushed himself back from knee surgery in order to compete in the World Cup and looked far from fit as a result.
Having returned to Juventus, Vidal has already aggravated his knee slightly and has now come down with a thigh injury. Although the knee problem turned out to be nothing, the 27-year-old is set to sit out around three weeks with the thigh problem.
A new and interesting angle for the transfer saga involves Juan Mata. The Spaniard, who became Manchester United's record signing in January could no find himself surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after Angel Di Maria was brought in from Real Madrid.
Juventus are interested and Van Gaal could be tempted by a swap deal.
One major reason for doubting Manchester United's renewed bid for Vidal is the fact that Van Gaal opted to sign the highly rated Daley Blind from Ajax. The £14 million man can play a number of roles but has shown his best form in a similar position to Vidal's.
