Daley Blind tipped to dictate play for Manchester United

Manchester United star Daley Blind has been tipped to 'dictate' the play at Old Trafford by Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert, reports the Manchester Evening News

The Dutch international, who starred at this summer's World Cup, completed his move to the Theatre of Dreams on transfer deadline day for £14 million last week, and will now be hoping to play a key role at the club this term.

And Kluivert, who coached Blind at this past summer's World Cup, certainly thinks the former Ajax man can star for United under Louis van Gaal.

Speaking to reporters, Kluivert said: “Things will and have to turn around for Manchester United and Louis van Gaal but he will be able to manage that team to play well and to perform at the best of their abilities.

“Daley Blind is a very intelligent player who reads the game very well. Everyone saw him at the World Cup where he played all the games for the Dutch national team as a left wing-back and as someone who sat in front of the defence.

“He can be a key man between the defence, midfield and the strikers to dictate the tempo of the game."

Blind will be hoping to make his debut for the club this weekend, as the Red Devils play host to Premier League new-boys QPR. The Red Devils have endured a nightmare start to this season and will be desperate to secure their first win of the Van Gaal era on Sunday afternoon.

United's Dutch signing, then, could be set to star in central-midfield this weekend, but will have to battle the likes of Ander Herrera and Darren Fletcher for a place in the starting XI.

As well as Blind, the likes of Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Radamel Falcao could make their debuts for the club this weekend, whilst Angel di Maria could feature at Old Trafford for the first time as a Manchester United player.

Ex-United star Rio Ferdinand, meanwhile, will return to the Theatre of Dreams for the first time since leaving the club for the Hoops at the end of last season.
