Manchester United have the first option to sign Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Daily Star.
It's been suggested that a deal was put in place between United and Madrid that could see the Portuguese superstar return to Old Trafford if he becomes available for a transfer.
Will they sell?
It remains to be seen, however, as to whether the Spanish giants will be willing to part with the forward any time soon, but speculation regarding the player's future has been heating up in recent days.
In-fact, recent reports have even suggested that Manchester United officials are preparing a stunning £300,000-a-week contract offer for the club's former No.7. Fans of the Red Devils will be desperate to see their hero in the red shirt of Manchester United once more, but it appears that this transfer saga could go on for many months.
News of United having the first option to sign the forward will certainly come as a major for Chelsea, who have also been linked with his signature in recent days. Jose Mourinho of course worked with Ronaldo during his time with the Spanish giants, and would love to be reunited with the World Player of the Year.
Chelsea, though, will have to hope that Manchester United don't take up their option to re-sign the Portuguese international, with the Red Devils very much in the driving seat to bring him back to England's elite division.
For now, though, Manchester United and Chelsea will be focussing on this weekend's Premier League fixtures. Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal will be looking to secure his first competitive victory as manager of the club with a win over Premier League new-boys QPR.
The United boss could hand debuts to as many as four players this weekend, with the likes of Radamel Falcao, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind all hoping to feature against the Hoops.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will be targeting a fourth straight league victory, but will have to overcome high flying Swansea City who have made an impressive start to this campaign. Blues fans will be hoping that star man Diego Costa proves his fitness after picking up an injury on international duty with Spain.
