Erik Lamela continued his impressive start to the season with a brilliant side-foot volley finish as his Argentina side gained a victory over Germany in a repeat of the World Cup final.

Tottenham's record buy latched onto to an Angel Di Maria cross to put the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box as the beaten finalists won 4-2 in Dusseldorf.

International round-up

Elsewhere on international duty, Tottenham's Vlad Chiriches and Christian Eriksen helped kick off Romania and Denmark's Euro 2016 qualifying campaigns with wins over Greece and Armenia respectively. Both played 90 minutes.

Hugo Lloris played the whole game as France drew 1-1 with Serbia in a friendly, having beaten Spain by a single goal earlier in the week. Jan Vertonghen, Moussa Dembele and Nacer Chadli all appeared as Belgium beat Australia 2-0 in another friendly.

In Africa, Emmanuel Adebayor could not stop Togo losing 3-2 to Ghana despite scoring, and his country looks unlikely to make the African Nations Cup this time round as they sit bottom of their qualifying group. Nabil Bentaleb's Algeria, meanwhile, left it late to beat Mali and bow sit top of their group with two wins from two.
