Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy did not suffer a broken or fractured ankle in yesterday's Premier League clash with Manchester City and is now very hopeful of escaping what looked like a nasty incident without serious injury.

Debuchy crumpled to a heap late on in the 2-2 draw at the Emirates after landing awkwardly, a worrying sight which no doubt had Arsenal fans and Arsene Wenger cursing their terrible luck with injuries once again.

The French international has attempted to allay those fears with a post of on his official Facebook account though, with further tests due tomorrow to determine the full extent of an ankle problem that could well turn out to just be a bad sprain.

Gunners supporters will have been relieved to read: "I have to pass a medical exam on Monday. No fracture. Hope to be back asap!"

Debuchy definitely out of Dortmund clash

Wenger will still have to plan for Tuesday's tricky Champions League opener against familiar foes Borussia Dortmund without Debuchy regardless of any positive prognosis, which means Calum Chambers will probably deputise at right-back.

There's no hiding from the fact that despite a vast array of attacking options the Gunners look worryingly threadbare at the back, with only the inexperienced Hector Bellerin ready to cover for Chambers in Germany.

Will Arsenal's luck ever change?

How Wenger could now do with a run of luck on the injury front over the next few weeks, as the fixtures start to come thick and fast.

Dortmund, Aston Villa, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are all opponents over the next few weeks across three competitions, with Wenger surely acutely aware that any further absentees in key defensive areas could seriously damage their chances of staying in touch with the early pacesetters in the Premier League.
