Kobe Bryant has been questioned as to his credentials as the NBA's best two-way, two-guard by the agent of Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors.
Bill Duffy, who represents Thompson and no other top tier shooting guards believe it or not, believes that Thompson is the best shooting guard in the NBA as of right now.
Michael Jordan and Bryant have carried the NBA's top two-way, two-guard torch only for the past 30 years or so, and this is the first time in that period that it could be legitimately questioned that one of them isn't the best in the league, with Duffy claiming his client is completely ahead of Bryant and it's not even close.
“I don’t want (Los Angeles Lakers star) Kobe Bryant to go crazy, but there’s some uncertainty as to who he is right now (because of injuries that limited him to six games last season),” Duffy told USA TODAY Sports.
“But I think Klay Thompson right now is the top two-way, two-guard in basketball. I think when you look at his body of work, when you look at what he accomplished guarding point guards on a regular basis (last season), I think it’s pretty clear.”
While the sentiment may actually be true given Bryant’s age and Thompson’s evolving game, that’s obviously going to be bulletin board material for the Los Angeles Lakers star.
Did we forget to mention that Thompson is in a contract year and the Warriors are balking at the idea of offering the 24-year old a max contract extension? So you can guess why Duffy is coming out with these comments at this time.
