Arsenal could have done with an extra defender during their mauling at the hands of Borussia Dortmund last night.
One player they were consistently linked with over the summer was Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar - however he's spoken out about the speculation linking him with Arsenal, insisting that he doesn't feel disappointed that he didn't earn a big-money move to the Gunners.
Vlaar was also a target for Manchester United over the summer, with reports suggesting that he could hook back up with Louis van Gaal who took up the reigns at Old Trafford after leading the Netherlands at the World Cup in Brazil.
"I don't feel disappointed", Vlaar told Helden Online after being asked about the Arsenal and Manchester United transfer speculation.
"I have always maintained that I am enjoying myself at Villa and that is still true. I just want to keep giving my best here."
Arsene Wenger's decision not to sign a defender to replace the out-going Thomas Vermaelen - who was a target for Manchester United - backfired last night as his makeshift defence couldn't hold out against a rampant Dortmund, who strolled to a 2-0 win in their Champions League clash.
It wasn't just the defence worrying Arsenal last night - boss Arsene Wenger looks short in midfield after Jack Wilshere picked up an ankle injury in the 2-0 defeat.
He was able to carry on playing until the final whistle but initial reports suggested he could face a spell on the sidelines, however while the England international is expected to miss the Gunners upcoming fixture against Aston Villa this weekend he should be back after that.
To round off a pretty disastrous night all round for Arsenal, Mesut Ozil has been panned in his home country after his lacklustre performance - national newspaper Bild marked him as the worst player on the pitch last night, claiming that he didn't earn his money.
