Ex-Manchester United midfielder Lou Macari has insisted that Luke Shaw will become a 'top talent', reports the Daily Star.
The teenager, who was signed from Southampton for £27 million in the summer transfer window, has endured a tricky opening to his Old Trafford career, however Macari has backed him to come good.
Shaw played for the first time this season for the club's U21 side against Sunderland this past week, and he will now be hoping to make his competitive debut for the first team in the near future after being placed on the bench against QPR last Sunday.
At just 19-years-old, though, Shaw has time on his hands to become a key member at Old Trafford, and Macari has tipped him to prove his credentials.
“He did okay in his 45 minutes against Sunderland but he can do better and I have seen him play better as well,” he told Manchester Evening News.
“I saw it for Southampton’s first team but I saw even more of him when he was in the Saints reserves and youth side when they played United. There was no doubt he was going to be a top talent.
“But it has been a lot to take on board. Going from Southampton to playing for England at the World Cup in Brazil and then to Manchester United with a huge price tag.
"The jump in football doesn’t get any bigger. In six months his whole world has changed around dramatically. Any lad making that journey will find it hard.”
Shaw, then, will be hoping for a starting berth as the Red Devils travel to the King Power stadium to take on Leicester City this weekend. Manchester United will be hoping to make it back-to-back victories as they attempt to hit top form.
It remains to be seen, however, as to whether Van Gaal will continue with the 4-4-2 diamond system that served his side so well against the Hoops or whether he will revert back to the 3-5-2 system that he implemented at the beginning of the campaign.
And it appears, that Marcos Rojo may well battle with Shaw for a place at full-back, but Van Gaal could also play the Argentine ace at centre-half. Without a doubt, Manchester United fans will be hoping to see Shaw stay fit over the coming weeks and earn his place in the side's starting XI.
