5 players Manchester United should sign instead of Cristiano Ronaldo (1)

The transfer rumour mill has gone into overdrive in recent weeks, and there is one rumour in particular that is dong the rounds more than any other..

Yep, it's Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United. For some reason, ever since the summer transfer window closed, there has been non-stop speculation that the forward could be on his way back to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.

Whether there is any truth in the rumours remains to be seen - Ronaldo has a huge contract at the Bernabeu and Madrid won't let their biggest cash cow go on the cheap. Indeed it is being said that he will cost in the region of £60 million, while Manchester United will also have to cough up an eye-watering £500,000-per-week.

Putting aside the figures for one moment, a move for Ronaldo seems foolish. He'll be 30 by the time the Red Devils can sign him and he's been troubled by knee injuries of late - he wouldn't be the same fleet-footbed winger who charged around Old Trafford all those years ago.

If they really are insistent on spending all that money - they'd be much better off with one of these five players. Click below to get started!
