Manchester City fell to a 1-0 defeat at Bayern Munich in their opening game of the Champions League Group E.
An 89th minute strike from defender Jerome Boateng was enough to earn Bayern a deserved three points against his former club.
The German champions were dominant throughout the game and City to failed to get to grips with the pace of the Bavarian club.
It could have been a more emphatic scoreline had it not been for some poor finishing and fantastic goalkeeping from England number one Joe Hart.
City could have snatched a point late on through Sergio Aguero however Munich were full value for their victory on the night.
Having claimed a 3-2 victory at the Allianz last season, the Premier League champions were hopeful of a repeat result, however they were second best all over the park and spent long periods of the match camped in their own half.
