Arsene Wenger is considering a bid for Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, who would cost Arsenal in the region of £15 million when the transfer window reopens in January. (Daily Mail)

The Gunners boss already raided St Mary's for the services of Calum Chambers this summer and was also heavily linked with want-away star Morgan Schneiderlin.

However, Southampton's reluctance to part with the France international has seen Wenger turn attention to the Kenyan enforcer, another player reportedly unsettled on the south coast due to the widespread interest in his signature.

Wanyama is still only 23 and already boasts Champions League experience from his time with Celtic, so would be regarded as a solid addition to Arsenal's squad.

The north London club were actually credited with an interest in signing Wanyama - who has been likened in playing style to Patrick Vieira - when he first joined Southampton last summer, and could make a renewed attempt to sign him at the turn of the year.
