With their squad full of star names and a trophy cabinet that expects to be replenished at least once a season, it's easy to forget Manchester City are embarking on only their fourth season in the Champions League.

To put that into context, Arsenal are enjoying their 17th consecutive season among Europe's elite, and when they were entering the competition for a fourth time way back in 2001/2002, City were a second-tier side.

Scroll through the next five pages to find out, and be sure to leave us your thoughts on where City went wrong last night.
