If you’ve been a fan of the independent scene as well as NXT then you will have been very excited by the news that the WWE managed to snap up talent such as KENTA, Fergal Devitt and Kevin Steen.
The trio were signed to an already-impressive roster of brilliant talent on NXT who gained massive followings on the independent scene. The likes of Pac, El Generico and KENTA were huge names on the independent scene and now they’ve taken over NXT and possibly the main roster in the near future as Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn and Hideo Itami.
The WWE also snapped up two big stars, Kevin Steen and Fergal Devitt who have been training at the WWE Performance Center for a couple of months now as they get ready to make their official NXT debuts, whether it’s on-screen or at a house show, but it looks likely that their debuts will take place at an official taping.
There were strong rumours flying around when NXT Takeover II was taking place, that along with the appearance of KENTA we would be treated to another debut, but no such debut happened and as fans we are being forced to wait in anticipation for them.
Tag Team success
However, if the latest rumours are to be believed which Wrestling Inc have reported on, then Fergal Devitt could play an important part in a big, new tag team coming to NXT.
Fans of Fergal Devitt will know that Devitt has had success as part of a team, he’s a six time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion where he held the title with Minoru on two occasions and with Ryusuke Taguchi on four occasions.
At K-DOJO he was part of the best tag team match in 2010 when he and Taguchi defeated Makoto Oishi and Shiori Asahi but fans will remember him more for his time in The Bullet Club, one of the most famous and entertaining factions the independent scene has come across.
But it doesn’t look as if Devitt will be a part of the faction, even though it is something NXT fans want desperately. Teasing a ‘new generation of stars’ could see the likes of Itami, Neville, Zayn, Steen and Devitt create possibly one of the greatest wrestling factions in history, but that looks highly unlikely.
New tag team
The two names which have been discussed to team with Fergal Devitt are fellow new addition Kevin Steen, or the well-travelled Sami Zayn; both fantastic choices to leave the fans wanting more.
Kevin Steen and Fergal Devitt makes sense, they are both different in terms of their looks and in-ring techniques but equally as dominant. They are both new to the WWE and to casual wrestling fans they are pretty much unknown and could cause an even bigger impact, much like the Nexus did on their main roster debut.

Sami Zayn is also another fantastic choice, possibly one of the best wrestlers in the WWE today and we already know just how many fans he had before his winning main roster debut alongside Adrian Neville.
Even though both of these options would be welcomed by NXT fans, we already know that there are indications that some big NXT stars such as Hideo Itami as well as Steen and Devitt are being groomed to move to the main roster quicker than most, and that also means Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville could be on their way to the big time also.
I would have to go with Kevin Steen, I believe this pair would bring something fresh to the tag team division whilst Sami Zayn needs to feud with a heel Adrian Neville for the championship so it would be a waste to keep a popular Zayn out of the title picture.
Whoever the writers decide to go with, it is certainly an exciting time for NXT fans.
