Girondin de Bordeaux have reached once again the summit of Ligue 1 after a fine 2-1 win against Evian last weekend.
A Diego Rolan 19th-minute opener left Bordeaux settling well on home turf and doubling their lead 10 minutes after the interval was, perhaps, the best time to secure the three points and join back the top of the Ligue 1 table.
First, Rolan successfully placed a smart touch that led the ball in the net at the near post, following a fine cross from the left flank, and, the impressive one came in the 56-minute after Wahbi Khazri cut inside from the left and fired a right footed shot, in the right-top corner of net.
Evian, then, found the pace to stick one back in the 84 minutes but it wasn’t enough to pick the points against a strong Bordeaux side.
Bordeaux re-join the summit on the same amount of point as Marseille and Saint-Etienne with 13, after dropping to third place the previous weekend.
Since Bayern Munich’s legend Willy Sagnol was appointed as Head Coach at the end of the previous Ligue 1 season, the South-West coast club [Bordeaux] have reunited with the glory nights at their home of football, Stade Chaban-Delmas.
‘The Girondin’ have started their Ligue 1 campaign almost perfectly, losing only one game in a round of six fixtures, and yes they have won four of them and drew one.
Their 4-1 victory against last year’s runners-up AS Monaco left everyone think that Bordeaux are back on track to gain their European nights back in the city, and it was true.
Sagnol was able to add to his inherited squad this summer and having brought in Bayern Munich’s left-back Diego Contento, it has certainly gave some experience at the club as the man played 49 with the German giant in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
And securing the services of Liverpool’s 21-year-old centre-half Tiago Llori for one season, on loan, Bordeaux have a fresh defence to develop and explore.
Sagnol must be the best person to do the job as he was himself a top defender for France and Bayern.
Moreover, with the likes of Cheick Diabate, Gregory Sertic, Khazri, or Rolan forming Bordeaux’s attacking display, Sagnol has some good faces with whom he can succeed on his first season – although they are not known overseas.
With the new stadium currently in construction ahead of the Euro 2016, Bordeaux will see themselves play in a brand new 42,000 seats stadium from May 2015 onwards.
Seeing lots of positive, the club entered a new era and if they keep playing on the same winning foot, then, they will earn back their top reputation.
