Aston Villa centre-half Ron Vlaar is set to hold contract talks with the club, amid interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.
This has been reported by the Mirror, who have suggested that the Dutch international is considering his long term future, and could yet decide to leave Villa Park once his contract expires at the end of this season.
It appears, then, that Villa boss Paul Lambert will try and secure the player's services for the long term. Vlaar enjoyed a fine World Cup for the Netherlands as the national team secured a third place finish in the tournament this past summer, which has led to a number of teams keeping tabs on him.
Louis van Gaal - who managed Vlaar for the Netherlands - has been credited with interest in the experienced star for some time, while Arsenal have also been linked with his services.
It remains to be seen, however, as to whether either of the clubs step up their interest in him or whether he decides to extend his stay at Villa Park.
Who needs him?
Aston Villa, of course, will be desperate to keep him as he's been instrumental to their success of late. As Villa's captain, he's helped the young stars excel in the last 12 months or so and has added vital experience to their back-line.
Without a doubt, Manchester United could do with his experience in their back-line. The Red Devils have endured a nightmare start to the campaign and have struggled since the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. With the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Tyler Blackett and Co. at the Theatre of Dreams, Van Gaal could do with signing someone he trusts to help marshal his defence.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are in desperate need of cover in their defensive department. The Gunners - who lost Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona this past summer - only signed youngster Calum Chambers from Southampton in the summer window. Vlaar, though, may not be content with a place on the bench at the Emirates, and would struggle for opportunities given the fact that Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are Wenger's No.1 partnership.
