Arsenal target Joseph Yobo has revealed that the club could be speaking with his agent, reports the Daily Star.
The former Everton centre-half has, however, insisted that he's not held formal contact with anybody over a potential deal.
Yobo - who is now 34-years-old - is currently a free agent after leaving Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, and did feature in the Premier League at Norwich City last season, but couldn't help them avoid relegation from England's elite division.
Arsenal's link with the defender may well come as a surprise, but he does have great experience in the Premier League, and he captained his country, Nigeria, in this past summer's World Cup.
The veteran has also insisted that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger previously tried to land him while he was starring for Everton, but has revealed that the Toffees blocked a move.
Speaking to reporters, he said: “I read Arsenal was interested in me, it was news to me. There is no formal contact with anybody. I know Arsene Wenger admires me a lot and wanted me to replace Sol Campbell some years ago, but Everton blocked the move.
“He wanted me to partner Kolo Toure in defence; I was younger then. If negotiations are taking place, I am not aware, maybe the club is speaking with my agent."
Arsenal are certainly in need of improvement in the defensive department, with Mathieu Debuchy currently out on the sidelines. The Gunners landed teenager Calum Chambers from Southampton in the summer transfer window, but are short of numbers after previous club captain Thomas Vermaelen departed for Spanish giants Barcelona.
Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are, without a doubt, Wenger's No.1 defensive partnership at the Emirates, but he could do with added cover. Yobo, then, would bring experience to the north London outfit, but Arsenal fans may worry whether he's still up to the pace of the game.
The club's immediate attention, however, will be on this weekend's north London derby, as the Gunners look to bounce back after their Capital One Cup defeat to Southampton last night. Wenger's side will be desperate to secure all three points against Tottenham as they go in search of consistency.
