It is the return that the WWE Universe has been eagerly awaiting and come WrestleMania XXXI, fans may finally be able to see Sting make a appearance.
Dave Meltzer noted in this week's edition of the subscribers-only Wrestling Observer Newsletter: "Sting merchandise is being sold at WWE house shows. Sting has a merchandise contract with WWE, and most expect him at WrestleMania for what could be his one and only WWE in-ring appearance this coming year."
Understandably, a one-off appearance in the ring would be most likely but that alone is all the WWE Universe has been anticipating for so long.
The 55-year-old hinted at a return to the ring during the WWE 2k15 game roster reveal earlier this year, stating that he would love to find out what it would be like to wrestle in a WWE ring.
The question of who his opponent would be at Levi's Stadium in San Francisco next year is an interesting one.
The most obvious candidate would of course be The Undertaker, but with many hoping this match-up would happen at this year's Wrestlemania as well as Brock Lesnar famously ending The Phenom's streak there, the Dead Man may well not be up to the challenge physically.
That said, should this incredible match take place next year on the grandest stage of them all, just to see these two wrestling giants in the ring together would be amazing enough that the outcome of the match would not be the main focus.
The image of Sting's opponent being another older wrestler such as Rick Flair or Hulk Hogan only increases the likeliness of the match being short and probably less impressive due to the physical ability of these superstars.
If he does appear, therefore, a young and more current opponent would be ideal. Someone like John Cena would be most likely as it would not only boost his profile being matched against someone like Sting, it would also work well for this being the latter's one-off appearance in the ring.
Whoever Sting faces and whenever this takes place, the WWE Universe is sure to be in for something special, having waited so long for this iconic moment to come.
