The Night of Champions main event concluded in bizarre fashion when Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins attacked John Cena to get him disqualified, allowing Brock Lesnar to retain his WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Almost the champion
The events which followed Rollins’ briefcase hit on Cena left the fans wondering just what was actually going on. Would Seth Rollins successfully cash in and walk out the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion? Would Seth Rollins become only the third superstar to unsuccessfully cash in after John Cena and Damien Sandow?
As we know now, Seth Rollins came so close to becoming the new champion until John Cena stopped him in his tracks. The Curb Stomp to Brock Lesnar came as a massive shock in itself as fans couldn’t believe Rollins actually went ahead and attacked The Beast Incarnate.
The surprising events that occurred courtesy of Seth Rollins at Night of Champions and even earlier are early indications that the WWE are grooming Seth Rollins to become the next top heel in the WWE.
A number of ideas were being discussed beforehand regarding the finish of the Night of Champions main event. We already saw Brock Lesnar dismantle John Cena at SummerSlam and there was no way Vince would allow his number one superstar to get beaten to a pulp on another pay-per-view, it had to be a lot closer and it was.
The WWE decided to go back to the original plan, which was exactly what unfolded earlier this week. The disqualification destroyed Cena’s chance at getting revenge on Brock Lesnar, and at the same time it allowed Seth Rollins to become perhaps the most hated man in the company right now; a perfect move.
Seth Rollins has run riot on Monday Night Raw; even Triple H told Seth Rollins on Monday Night Raw as did Randy Orton.
The number one heel
The fans love Dean Ambrose, he’s probably the second biggest face in the company right now, but easily the best face right now. The fact that we fans side with Ambrose and relate to him is what makes Rollins such a brilliant heel right now, the fact he is not even 30 years old yet just shows how much time he has available on his way to become a massive heel in the WWE.
The same can be said for Roman Reigns, Reigns is destined for the stars and will undoubtedly be the biggest star in the WWE if everything goes to plan. But what if Seth Rollins decides to crush Reigns potential WrestleMania moment by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase? You can imagine just how much the fans will ultimately despise him even though they will probably be cheering during the potential cash in.

He’s had a fantastic start, he broke The Shield from the inside, he’s taken down Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose and he stopped John Cena from becoming a 16-time world champion. I don’t think he will be a Randy Orton kind of heel, his heel style comes from a more mentally unstable place, such as Dean Ambrose. Rollins can be a more down-to-earth face. At the same time, much like Randy Orton when he turns face, he can be the best face around; that is the sort of talent we have to look forward to.
We know that the WWE are in a rush to create new stars, the massive Ambrose, Rollins, Reigns and even Rusev pushes are showing that, as long as he is booked correctly Seth Rollins has all the potential in the world to succeed as a face, and even become the best heel in years.
WWE fans – what do you think? Does Seth Rollins have the potential to become the number one heel in the company? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
