Chelsea are planning to launch a quite incredible €150million offer for Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi next summer, despite reports in the Spanish press that the Catalan giants knocked back a similar approach just a month ago.
Messi is nothing short of a living Barcelona legend and has the goal record to match that claim, with his current club-record tally standing at 359 goals in just 432 matches.
Barca's star man has almost been above transfer rumours in the last few years, but Metro believe Chelsea are ready to change that position and cite a Tweet from football agent Philip Harmeling in reporting that the Blues will try and pull off a quite remarkable blockbuster transfer when the current campaign concludes.
Jose Mourinho's rumoured attempt to sign Messi is on paper a transfer that would defy all logic. For starters Barca are now under a transfer embargo, unable to sign any new players in the next two transfer windows.
Past that Messi has never shown a desire to leave Barca or try his luck in the Premier League, while Mourinho was the chief architect in a bitter rivalry between the Catalan giants and Real Madrid during his time in charge of Los Blancos.
Chelsea are believed to want a marquee signing though, one which shows the image of the club has changed and than they can now compete for any of the world's top players with more pulling power than simply offering impressive salaries.
It would be very interesting to see how Barca would react to a formal transfer offer, particularly with Neymar and Luis Suarez already on their books.
For now this transfer story still looks to live in cloud cukoo land, but you just never know if enough money could be put on the table to change that perception and bring arguably the greatest player of the modern era to West London next summer.
