Adnan Januzaj scored a sensational free-kick for the Manchester United under-21 side against Tottenham last night.
The teenager - who has struggled to feature under Louis van Gaal for the first team so far this season - proved his qualities yet again at Stevenage’s Lamex Stadium with a stunning strike.
In truth, Januzaj didn't have his best game last night, but one moment of genius may well put him in Van Gaal's future plans. The fine strike from an extremely tight angle nestled into the top corner of the net as United levelled the scores on the night with just three minutes remaining.
In fact, United went on to win the game thanks to a fine stoppage time header from Tom Thorpe, which was ultimately set up by Januzaj from a corner. Thorpe, of course, made his Premier League debut for the club this past weekend, as he replaced youngster Luke Shaw in the dying minutes in the club's 2-1 win over West Ham United.
Competition for places
So, has Januzaj done enough to prove he deserves a starting place against Everton on Sunday? With club captain Wayne Rooney suspended until November, there's certainly a position to fill behind Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao in attack.
It's expected, however, that Spaniard Juan Mata will fill the No.10 role with Rooney on the sidelines, but Januzaj will be keen to take his chance. With the Red Devils playing without out-and-out wingers, the youngster's chances of entering the frame at the Theatre of Dreams are certainly limited because of the system.
