Arsenal legend Martin Keown has criticised Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren, claiming the former Southampton star has made a disappointing start to his career at Anfield. (Daily Mail)

The Croatia international was recruited by Brendan Rodgers with the aim of strengthening the Reds back line, but since his £20m switch to Merseyside the team has looked even more error-prone in defence.

Much of the negative press has been targeted at under-performing striker Mario Balotelli, but Keown thinks that Lovren has been equally poor, and has failed to justify his price-tag.

The 25-year-old impressed many during his debut campaign in the Premier League at St Mary's last term, but is suffering from a severe lack of confidence following a difficult start to life at Liverpool.
