Manchester United pulled off a much-needed victory over the weekend against Everton - and now Juan Mata has revealed the strange inspiration behind the win.
Record signing Angel di Maria opened the scoring with Mata laying on the assist in the first half before Steven Naismith levelled things up for the Toffees.
Di Maria was on hand to tee up Radamel Falcao for his first goal as a Manchester United player not long after to wrap up all three points - although it wasn't a straight forward win.
David de Gea was in sensational form throughout, becoming the first goalkeeper to save a Premier League penalty from Leighton Baines after Tony Hibbert was clumsily bought down by Luke Shaw in the box on the stroke of half time.
The Spanish stopper then helped Manchester United preserve their lead amidst a late Everton onslaught, producing fine saves to deny Bryan Oviedo and Leon Osman before the final whistle.
The win means Manchester United now have back to back Premier League victories which have moved them up to fourth place, level on points with both Swansea and Tottenham.
Everton boss Roberto Martinez remained adamant afterwards that his side deserved at least a point from the game, and praised De Gea as being the reason behind Manchester United's win.
Mata agreed with his sentiment, although he revealed a rather strange influence behind de Gea's decisive contribution - his new haircut.
Writing in his personal blog, the Manchester United playmaker claimed that his countryman's new trim had been having a positive effect on his game.
"It was a key game but we know there is still a long way ahead," he wrote. "Because we won the match but once again we suffered until the last minute, and perhaps we should have controlled the game better.
"We took the lead thanks to Ángel and then David started his amazing performance. First he saved Baines’ penalty. In the second half they tied the game and later on Radamel scored (I am very happy for you, the first one of many more goals, I’m sure). And then David did several extraordinary saves to keep the three points at home. What a superb performance! It seems his new haircut brought him luck…!"
Manchester United will take on West Brom when the Premier League resumes after the international break. Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is hopeful that he won't be without Luke Shaw, who limped off int he game against Everton with a knee complaint, for too long.
