It's been more than ten years since the 'Texas Rattlesnake' Stone Cold Steve Austin graced the ring as a wrestler. However, according to recent reports, he could be in line for a long awaited return, and on the biggest stage of them all. Wrestlemania 31.
Hitting the Gym
For a while now he has been adding fuel to the fire by hinting at a return, however recently on his own radio show, the Steve Austin Show Podcast, he dropped the biggest hint yet whilst talking to former wrestler Ric Drason:
“I’m trying to get back into shape for a comeback.”
Also, the rumors were made more believable when the WWE started selling much more Stone Cold merchandise and even started promoting his podcast on their shows.
Perfect Match up
The good news doesn't stop there, as its believed that during a supposed guest appearance at Wrestlemania he would face off against Roman Reigns.
The match up makes sense as Austin has generated a lot of hype recently and would help Roman Reigns, who has been out of action for a while - and will remain out of action for a some while longer - return to prominence and aid his bid (and the WWE's) to become the face of the organization.
Also, with Reigns returning from a serious injury it wouldn't be the right move to match him up at Wrestlemania with Brock Lesnar - who presumably will still be WWE Champion at the time.
A match up against the Texas Rattlesnake would benefit both parties especially if they can make it an epic. It would benefit Austin by really putting him back on the map and potentially give him more opportunities down the line.
There has been a lot of talk that Reigns hasn't got the skill set or technical ability to be the face of the WWE, so a match up with Austin, one of the best to ever step foot in a ring would only help Reigns improve. Also seeing how the legend works hard and conducts himself in the ring would be invaluable to Reigns.
Stone Cold will be 50 by Wrestlemania 31 and he's been out of the ring for over 10 years. Theres only so long you can stay inactive before fans lose interest in a potential return. They don't want to see a 65 year old Steve Austin, they want to see a fit and in shape Steve Austin who can still perform to the best of his abilities.
WWE, let's make it happen. Before it's too late.
What do you guys think? Should Stone Cold take on Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 31? And who would you like to see come out on top.
