All eyes are on Luke Harper as he has been set free by Bray Wyatt and is now embarking on a singles career. There are interesting times are ahead for the former NXT Tag Team Champion.
For fans that hadn't followed Harper’s journey to the WWE; he was a huge independent star as Brodie Lee competing in promotions such as Jersey All Pro Wrestling and CHIKARA; but nobody would have expected Luke Harper to be the break out star from The Wyatt Family.
Of course, his fans knew the talent he possessed but when he was paired with the talented and younger Bray Wyatt, there were doubts regarding just how much Luke Harper would be able to achieve in the WWE.
He became the NXT Tag Team Champion with fellow Wyatt Family member Luke Harper; so as expected it was believed he could be limited to the tag team division.
But there could be big plans on the horizon for Luke Harper.
The one mistake the WWE and the fans make is that once a star is destined for great things, it never goes to plan. You either have a fall from grace like Dolph Ziggler or even Cesaro, or your highly anticipated future results in becoming a dancing dinosaur.
Hopefully for Luke Harper, this isn’t the case and he is able to utilise his incredible in-ring and microphone skills to his advantage; for that he needs to be in one or many great feuds in the next year so.
Here are five potential feuds for Luke Harper in his singles run, which I believe will turn him into a major star in the future.
The Big Show
Right now The Big Show is working in a feud with Rusev which could potentially end at Hell in a Cell, now unless Bray Wyatt gets to The World’s Largest Athlete first, Luke Harper should pounce and mark his authority.
Both men can talk and Harper’s in-ring qualities could make for some epic encounters; Harper has said it’s time for him to hunt and who better to hunt than the largest athlete in the WWE. If Harper can pick up a series of wins over The Big Show, he will definitely fully step out of Bray Wyatt’s shadow and become a star in his own right, a star we know he can become with the right booking.
Much like The Big Show, Mark Henry would be a huge name under Luke Harper’s belt if he is to eventually enter a feud with him. Both Henry and Big Show did have a few battles with Luke Harper and Erick Rowan but there was no real feud there and it just dissolved. Mark Henry is coming back off devastating losses to Rusev and it’s no secret his career is now winding down. One thing he should do before he calls it a day is to put over Luke Harper; defeating The World’s Strongest Man is no small feat.
He’s still strong, he is still dangerous and at times the fans are always behind him, it certainly would be interesting to see what Luke Harper could do in a singles feud against Mark Henry where a big win could propel him into championship territory, much like it has for Bo Dallas who picked up three wins against Mark Henry and now faces Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship on Main Event.
Talking of Dolph Ziggler, other than Cesaro Luke Harper could be the biggest threat he has or will face for his Intercontinental Championship. Luke Harper definitely has the ability to become a champion, he was successful as the NXT Tag Team Champion; he and Rowan should have been WWE Tag Team Champions and Harper has the ability to become a champion at the highest level, whether he can achieve that remains to be seen.
One problem with the Intercontinental Championship as well as the United States Championship is that they mean very little nowadays as there is so much emphasis in the unification of the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships and that means Ziggler and Sheamus need to step up. If Ziggler cannot do it then putting him in a feud with Harper and allowing Harper to become the champion would be a perfect move. Not just any champion where he will drop it weeks later; he needs to be a champion that can be a serious threat to the record number of days the championship has been held, he needs to be built up as an unbeatable monster.
Cesaro isn’t a random name thrown into the mix to make either man look impressive in the ring, but the two of them are very familiar with each other and we know just how the independent stars are already taking over the WWE; this would be another exciting match for the fans of CHIKARA that also follow the WWE. In fact, in his entire wrestling career so far Cesaro is possibly the greatest feud Harper has been involved in.
Cesaro challenged Harper to the first ever cage match that CHIKARA hosted and has gone down in history as one of the best in the promotion. The two have progressed on to bigger and better things, and rightfully so. I don’t think the WWE need to revisit their feud as Luke Harper needs to remain an enigma with a backstory; the fact they work so well in the ring could create a fantastic feud, one similar to the epic encounters between long-time rivals Sami Zayn and Cesaro; this would be money for the WWE.
This is a given and needs to happen; perhaps not this year but once Bray Wyatt grows into the main event calibre superstar we know he is and Luke Harper progresses up the same ladder as well. If a Cesaro and Luke Harper doesn’t feud doesn’t happen, this would be my number one choice because Bray Wyatt has already helped open the eyes of many fans for himself and The Wyatt Family and how good they actually are at playing their roles so well; a feud with Wyatt will help both men greatly.
Luke Harper needs to be successful, he needs to be a monster in his own liking and wreak havoc wherever he goes, and eventually Bray Wyatt needs to remind him that he is his creator and he fixed him, which hopefully results in both men coming to blows and potentially putting on a brilliant feud. Both are fantastic in the ring, they both have the perfect look for their characters and of course, great on the microphone. Keep your eyes peeled for this one as this should happen in the near future.
