WWE officially announced that the 2015 Royal Rumble will be taking place from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, at last night Smackdown tapings.
This wasn't the surprising part of the announcement, as it was also stated that the 2015 Royal Rumble will see 40 competitors, instead of the traditional 30 man over the top rope battle royal.
2nd Time Ever
This is only the second time in WWE's history that they have added a further 10 men to the competition, after Alberto Del Rio won the first 40-man Rumble in 2011.
It was also announced that it would be coming live on January 25th, four days earlier than this year's offering, which makes sense given that next years Wrestlemania is in March.
It's thought that the added number of places will mean that not only will there be a host of faces returning such as Roman Reigns, Batista and Daniel Bryan but some of the NXT talent may also be given a chance, much like Bo Dallas was two years ago.
The match itself is usually an hour long, given that a new participant has to wait 90 seconds to be allowed in the match, so for 40 competitors, this would add a further fifteen minutes to the match, which would mean the card wouldn't have to be as stacked full as it usually is.
The Rumble is best known for its surprise entrants and next years is set to be no different, Daniel Bryan was the one that many people wanted to see in this years Rumble and instead booed for most of the match when it was deemed that The Authority had forbidden him from taking part.
Next year should see the creator of the "yes" chant back in the ring as well as vicious rumours that state that CM Punk should return here, if he is to return anywhere. By that time it will be a year since "the Best in the world" left the WWE and if he is to return at any point, you would have to think that a Rumble would be the best time.
The rumours will continue to float around as the Rumble itself gets closer and closer, but with the announcement that there will be ten extra places this year, you have to think there will be shocks install for the WWE Universe next year.
