With it being crunch time in the MLS season, here is another look at the updated playoff picture going into week 33.
Four teams can clinch playoff berths this weekend but before that, here are the sides who have already made the playoffs and the sides who are out of contention:
PLAYOFF BOUND: SEATTLE SOUNDERS, LA GALAXY & D.C UNITED
NO HOPE: MONTREAL IMPACT, CHIVAS USA, CHICAGO FIRE, COLORADO RAPIDS & SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES
MLC Cup Champions, Sporting Kansas City could secure playoff soccer this weekend. They go up against already eliminated Chicago at home, and whilst a win would be invaluable, they will be keeping one eye on the Philadelphia Union v Columbus Crew match as a win will only see them into the playoffs if the Union beat Columbus as well.
As for the New England Revolution, their destiny is in their own hands, as a win against bottom placed Montreal would see them into the playoffs with two games to go. If they fail to win however, they could still make the playoffs with a tie and other results around the league going their way.
IN the western conference, FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake both have another golden opportunity to make the playoffs after missing out last week. FC Dallas will be ruing last weeks 2-0 loss against Vancouver as it gets harder for them this weekend when they host the on fire LA Galaxy. If they fail to win they will be hoping other results within the conference go their way, otherwise they will have to wait another week to attempt to secure playoff soccer.
Real Salt Lake have an easier match up than Dallas as they host the dead and buried San Jose Earthquakes. A win would guarantee the playoffs but once again, with help from around the league, they could make the post season even if they fail to get the win.
Tonights match up between Houston and Toronto is an interesting one with both desperate for the three points. If Toronto win, Houston's season is over (not literally) and if the Dynamo win Toronto's hopes of making the playoffs will be hanging by a thread.
All in all though, you the MLS season is coming to an end, and it's tighter than ever. I'd strongly recommend you stay tuned in - blink and you'll miss it.
