Ola Toivonen has expressed regret at his failed Liverpool transfer, after admitting he wished that he pushed harder for a move to the Premier League. (Sky Sports)

Roy Hodgson tried to bring the Swedish striker to Anfield in 2010, but was blocked by the player's former club PSV Eindhoven, who fought hard to keep Toivonen in Holland.

The 28-year-old established a glowing reputation thanks to his impressive goal record in the Eredivisie, before things eventually turned sour for him at the Philips Stadion last season, resulting in an exit in January.

Toivonen was snapped up by French club Rennes, and he is now enjoying a new challenge in a different country. However, he can't help but think about what might've been, had he forced through a transfer to Liverpool.
