Golfing World News: October 9

Hi, I’m Mick Le Mare, and this is GW news. First to the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia where Rolex rankings number one Stacy Lewis leads the field by a single stroke after shooting an opening round 65. Na Yeon Choi is amongst a quartet of South Koreans just one shot back at five under par.

The dust may have only just settled on Europe’s Ryder Cup victory at Gleneagles, but the process of selecting a new captain is already in full swing. David Howell was announced as the fifth and final member of the panel that will choose the skipper of the 2016 side for the defence at Hazeltine National.

The remainder of the committee will be made up of the past three captains in

Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal and Paul McGinley as well as European tour chief executive George O’Grady.

Darren Clarke is the bookmakers favourite with Miguel Angel Jiminez and Thomas Bjorn both thought to be interested in the role.

And finally, if you’ve got a spare $1,295,000 lying around you can pick up this luxurious pile in Lake Nona, Florida. The current owner, a certain Ian Poulter has put it up for sale and has taken to twitter to advertise it. The four bedroom house comes complete with a swimming pool and a games room, but the garage is a bit on the small side with only enough space for two cars.

That’s everything for today, but for another golf fix, head to or get in touch with us on facebook, twitter or instagram.
