Bosnian goalkeeper Romeo Mitrovic will surely face a retrospective ban after being caught on camera punching a referee that showed him a yellow card during a recent second division clash between HNK Branitelj and Buducnost.
The 35-year-old already had a reputation as something of a madman, and the veteran stopper proved exactly why after video evidence showed him chasing the intimidated official off the pitch before eventually being upheld by his team-mates.
Thankfully, Mitrovic's punch was slightly off-target meaning the man in the middle didn't feel the full force of the custodian's fist. Just as well, as a direct hit would've almost certainly knocked the ref flat out.
The incident was reminiscent of a drunken altercation you'd see in the pub on a Saturday night - often sparked by a particularly inebriated individual - but if one thing is certain it's that there is no place for this on a professional football pitch.
Mitrovic doesn't even have the excuse that he was under the influence at the time, given that he was part of the way through a match that ended with him on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline.
The foolish Branitelj star might well have found brief fame while the footage of his outlandish behaviour goes viral on various social media platforms, but there's still no justification for the player's actions - he should be punished accordingly.
