Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal will always be special to him.
This has been reported by the Daily Star, who have suggested that Manchester United could make a move for the player's services in the January transfer window after previously showing interest in him under former manager David Moyes.
Wijnaldum - who is currently plying his trade at PSV Eindhoven - certainly holds his former national coach in high regard after this summer's World Cup, but it remains to be seen as to whether he would be tempted in a switch to the Theatre of Dreams.
When asked about Van Gaal, the midfield ace said: "He will always be special to me."
Manchester United, of course, landed Wijnaldum's international teammate Daley Blind in the last transfer window, but Van Gaal could look to bring even more Dutch recruits to the club in the future.
And the Red Devils boss clearly rates Wijnaldum after handing the player a starring role in Brazil throughout the summer.
It's expected that Manchester United will add to their midfield ranks in 2015, despite the signing of Blind and Spanish ace Ander Herrera in the previous window. The club have struggled in the middle of the park for some time now, with the club struggling to dominate games.
Wijnaldum, though, is fairly versatile and may look to play in more of an advanced role if he was going to move to England. Manchester United, though, have an array of talent in the attacking areas of the pitch with the likes of Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj, Angel di Maria and Co. all competing for places in the starting XI.
Van Gaal start
For now, though, the Manchester United boss will be hoping the club can continue their good run of form after securing two straight victories. The Red Devils have now moved up to fourth place in the Premier League and travel to the Hawthorns to take on West Brom in their next outing after the international break.
