Manchester United could land long-term summer target Arturo Vidal for more nearly £15million less than was being demanded throughout the summer, where the Premier League giants failed to come to an agreement with Juventus.
According to the Daily Star, the Old Trafford club spent much of the summer transfer window trying to lure the Chile international away from the Serie A champions, but they were stubborn in refusing to sell and Manchester United would not meet their £42million asking price.
However, it goes on to say that new Manchester United manager may finally get to land his man and do so for around £27million – nearly £15million less than the original asking price.
Juventus’ change of heart is being linked with the disciplinary problems Vidal has been having since the transfer deadline passed and no switch to the Premier League materialised.
In trouble for late night antics
He was fined by the Serie A champions for going out to a nightclub before a crucial match against rivals AS Roma, where he was involved in an altercation.
The report claims that Bianconeri officials decided that they would be prepared to sell the 27-year-old soon after handing out the punishments, though his behaviour is being linked with a bad reaction to the Manchester United move not materialising.
Still spent big
Missing out on Vidal did not mean Van Gaal missed out on a big-money summer signing, however, as the Old Trafford club spent a record £60million on bringing in Real Madrid star Angel di Maria to the club.
