Manchester United fans have voted against a potential swap deal involving Juan Mata and Arturo Vidal.
The poll, which has been conducted by the Manchester Evening News, indicated that just 40% of fans were in favour of the club allowing Mata to leave for Juventus in order to bring Chilean midfielder Vidal to Old Trafford.
It's not surprising that Mata has been linked with a move away from the Theatre of Dreams of late, with the player struggling for opportunities under Louis van Gaal. Despite being a key member of the first-team in the opening period of the season, Mata has endured a tricky time since the likes of Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria arrived towards the end of the summer transfer window.
Mata did, however, play in United's last fixture because of Wayne Rooney's suspension, but his long term future at the club has been placed into some doubt over the last few weeks.
Vidal to United
Arturo Vidal, on the other hand, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time. In fact, it was suggested that he was going to join the club in the last transfer window, but a move failed to materialise.
Now, though, with Juventus seemingly keen on Mata, United reignite their interest in the box-to-box midfielder. Despite signing Ander Herrera and Daley Blind in the previous transfer window, the Red Devils could still do with adding a tough-tackling midfielder in the near future, but it appears that United fans don't want to lose Mata in the process.
It remains to be seen as to whether Manchester United boss Van Gaal would be willing to let Mata depart or whether he wants to keep him as a valuable option at the Theatre of Dreams.
Mata an Co. will currently be focussed on the club's next fixture as they travel to the Hawthorns to take on West Brom next Monday evening.
