Manchester United went crazy in this past summer's transfer window as they spent over £150 million on new signings after a disastrous season under David Moyes.
New Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal made huge changes to the playing staff throughout the course of the window as he let a number of players depart Old Trafford, but managed to secure the services of as many as six new players.
Sir Alex Ferguson
Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently spoke out for the first time regarding the club's summer business, and he was supportive of Van Gaal's busy summer period.
In an interview with MUTV, the legendary Scotsman said: "I think when you can identify ability like that needed by Manchester United, they [the club] have the resources to do that [deal]. They are fees I never quite equalled but nonetheless they were needing quite a big injection this year.
"They brought in some good quality. It was really important as you need quality at Manchester United, you need the best players. It’s the rebuilding of the team."
A tricky start
Despite the new signings, Manchester United have made an inconsistent start to life under Van Gaal. The Red Devils are already eight points behind league leaders Chelsea, but have picked up back-to-back Premier League victories.
