There's been a great deal of news coming out of Manchester United once again today as the club prepare for the return of the Premier League. 

The Red Devils are next in action against West Brom on Monday night, with Louis van Gaal's side looking to secure their third straight victory.

Michael Carrick could feature against West Brom 

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal could welcome back midfield ace Michael Carrick for the club's fixture with West Brom on Monday evening. 

The 33-year-old looks set for a place on the bench at the Hawthorns after finally recovering from the ankle ligaments injury that he picked up in pre-season. 


Antonio Valencia suffers injury 

Van Gaal will certainly be boosted by the return of Carrick, but it appears that Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia will miss next week's clash. 

The pacey star picked up a hamstring injury in the club's last outing against Everton, and he's now set for a spell out on the sidelines. 


Paul Scholes picks England's best player 

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has surprisingly picked Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere as England's best player. 

The former Red Devils midfielder openly criticised the Gunners star last season, but Scholes now insisted that the youngster has 'added another dimension to his game'. 


Tom Cleverley could make Manchester United return 

It appears that midfield misfit Tom Cleverley could still have a future at Old Trafford, despite Van Gaal sending the player out on loan to Aston Villa. 

United's academy director Brian McClair has hinted that the midfielder could return to the club at the end of his temporary spell away. 


Rio Ferdinand charged over mum tweet 

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has been charged by the FA after posting an inappropriate tweet on September 1. 

The now QPR centre-half - who left the Theatre of Dreams this past summer - used the slang term "sket" when responding to a follower on the social media network.  


Manchester United tracking Andre Ayew

The Old Trafford outfit could make a move for talented Marseille winger Andre Ayew in the January transfer window. 

It appears that the Red Devils could bring him to the club in the winter market, or land him on a free next summer.
