CM Punk's exit from WWE back in January earlier this year was an acrimonious one, and ever since that day, wrestling fans have been eager to know when their superstar wrestler will return.
It has now been nine months since CM Punk last went toe to toe with another superstar in the ring, but that hasn't stopped the WWE Universe voicing their support for WWE's absent indie darling, with WWE Diva Paige the latest to hit out over the Punk chants.
Punk chants ongoing
It seems that the longer he's away the more intense fans get about wanting CM Punk back. He is by far the most searched wrestler this year despite having not been in the WWE for the good part of nine months, but when it comes to fan support during live shows, CM Punk is up there with the best still.
Punk has the advantage of his wife, AJ Lee, still being in the WWE. This has led to practically every single AJ Lee match including an array of CM Punk chants, which are clearly getting too much for WWE.
Paige's time to act
We have had plenty of examples in the last few months of CM Punk chants overshadowing shows on Raw and SmackDown, and WWE Diva Paige was the latest wrestler to respond to the chants this past week.
'CM Punk' chants are at their most intense when AJ Lee is performing, and a recent of her matches against Paige was a prime example, according to WrestleZone. Rather than letting fans have their way yet again, Paige responded on the mic by yelling back, "Her name's AJ and she sucks."
Tough situation for WWE
This situation is quite a difficult one for the WWE. Some in the company may have thought in the summer that the CM Punk chants will have disappeared by now, but that won't happen for a long time yet. Every time AJ Lee performs there are going to be plenty of WWE fans chanting her husband's name and there's not much the wrestling company can do about it.
There is no doubt that WWE have thought long and hard about simply letting go of AJ Lee because of all of the Punk chants, but her status as the most popular and competent Diva in WWE means they just can't afford to do that.
It seems that WWE personnel will have to just keep tolerating the Punk chants as the WWE Universe continue to voice their support for absent superstar CM Punk.
