Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is set to make a surprise return to action to take on Premier League leaders Chelsea on October 26, according to the Mirror.
It was previously suggested that the Spanish star - who signed for the Red Devils from Athletic Bilbao in the summer - was set for six weeks on the sidelines, however it now appears that he's set to return sooner rather than expected,
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal will certainly be pleased that Herrera's injury isn't as bad as first feared, with the same report even suggesting that he could feature at the Hawthorns for the club's clash with West Brom on Monday night.
It seems more likely, though, that the Red Devils boss will prepare him for the showdown with Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side at the end of the month. As well as Herrera, it appears that Michael Carrick is closing in on a return from his lengthy injury lay-off.
The 33-year-old hasn't featured under the Van Gaal regime yet this season after picking up an ankle injury in pre-season, but he looks set to play a key role for the club over the coming weeks and months.
Herrera and Carrick may well partner each other in the middle of the park at Old Trafford in the near future, with the likes of Daley Blind, Darren Fletcher and Marouane Fellaini all hoping to become regulars.
Manchester United are set for a difficult couple months, with the club taking on Premier League champions Manchester City after they play host to Chelsea. The Red Devils will also travel to the Emirates next month to take on Arsene Wenger's Arsenal.
With the club currently sitting in fourth place and already eight points behind Mourinho's side at the top of the table, they won't want to fall any further behind their rivals before the festive period.
