Arsenal had a mixed international break with regards to injury, but the big story ahead of the clash against Hull City in the Premier League was that of Mesut Ozil being ruled out for up to three months with a knee injury.

Defence is also an issue for Arsene Wenger – many fans will say this was coming after the failure to recruit in the summer – as Laurent Koscielny has been ruled out to tendonitis in both of his Achilles tendons, while Calum Chambers is suspended for accumulating five yellow cards already.

However, there was good news in the fact that Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey were back in full training, with the latter a surprise inclusion in the matchday squad. Theo Walcott returned to action on Friday for the Under-21s, but the clash with the Tigers has come too soon for him.

Wenger was forced to go with youngster Hector Bellerin at right-back, while Nacho Monreal fills in at centre-back. Up front is no surprise, but Lukas Podolski has no place in the squad and young defender Semi Ajayi gets a place on the bench.

Here are the teams…

Szczesny, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Monreal, Gibbs, Flamini, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Alexis, Welbeck.

Subs: Martinez, Ajayi, Coquelin, Arteta, Rosicky, Ramsey, Campbell.

Hull City

Harper, Chester, Davies, Dawson, Elmohamady, Huddlestone, Livermore, Diame, Robertson, Ben Arfa, Jelavic.

Subs: Rosenior, Bruce, Hernandez, Brady, Jakupovic, Ramirez, Quinn.
