With Premier League clubs spending vast sums of money on foreign imports, it is becoming increasingly rare that top-flight clubs are taking a chance on the hottest young talents from within the country.
Most seem unwilling to venture beyond the Championship, and as such are overlooking an array of top talent.
Of course, there are exceptions to the rule - Harry Maguire was the most notable mover of the summer, while England internationals Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert have plied their trades in the lower leagues prior to reaching the Premier League (albeit staying with the same club in doing so).
This is a trend I hope will change in the future, particularly with the shortage of English talent in the Premier League becoming even more apparent.
